    Mick, yes, I have seen a few of these, and they are rare. That said, they are not banjos, they are sold as Tenor Lutes and most of the manufacturers in the 1920s and 1930s made them, including Gibson, Paramount, Vega, Epiphone, Washburn, and others. (I still have a Vega Cylinder-back Tenor Lute.) There were even solid-bodied electric versions (sold as Electric Banjos). I’m sure you’ve come across a few of those yourself.

    I have one that was my grandfathers, just like this one. Same head, except the face is red. Where can I get strings for it? What are these worth anyways?
