by admin on Nov.29, 2008, under Vintage Amps
Here is a Rare Marshall Straight Front 8X10 Cab I found at Guitar Center Seattle. I don’t think thay realized what they had !!! Jim Marshall told me they only made 6 of these. You never know what you can unearth in the most unlikely places.

Great Cabinet! you could imagine Ritchie Blackmore playing Smoke on the Water through it maybe even with that 62 Strat you have on the blog. Excited to see whats next!

Hi from France, although not very usual, these cabinets are not “rare” I own one myself, complete with the 50W head, this stack was built in 1967. I must say this delivers a strong sound with my 1965 Strat, but it’s not stamped “deep purple” anyway. Let the good times roll !!

Although the slant front cabs are around, the straight front are the rare ones. I showed this cab to Jim Marshall himself and he told me the story of these, including the special baffling they did on these cabs. You can see this cab on the inside of the Deep Purple “Made In Japan” album. Pascal, send us a pic of your cab, you might have a rare one !

Yes, Blackmore did use 4X12 cabs, this is true. But, these were built for bass (see the inside of Deep Purple Live In Japan album). This is a RARE straight front 8X10 cab. I showed it to Jim Marshall himself and he told me that Marshall only built these for Deep Purple. Find another one ! You won’t !

Yeah not rare at all.
Had one with a 50Watt head years ago.
It is a great sounding cabinet though.

The angled ones you can find. Find another straight front ! I personally asked Jim Marshall about this cab. He told me they only made 6. He remember it very well, including the baffleling inside the cab. If you find another please let me know.

This belongs to Roger Glover, not Blackmore. If you check out the Deep Purple Live in Denmark DVD, you will see Glover used on like this laid down on top of other cabs…Blackore’s are just the usual Marshall Stacks.
